I also had to steal this picture from Facebook to say LOOK AT PATRICE. Here he is showing us a photo album of the work that has been done on his country house over the years. He is the coolest.

I had to steal this photo from Facebook. Patrice asked us if we would like to “go for a little walk,” which turned out to be this intense hike through the country side and through the forest on ridiculous slopes doing our best to not roll our ankles. It was so idyllic, we even picked flowers. And then we had to descend this hill which was so steep (although it does not look it in this photo) that we resorted to sliding down on our butts and chlorophyllifying the hell out of our jeans.

This is probably the campest thing I have ever done? Right? Marshall, am I allowed to categorize this as camp?

I think this was called oeufs à la neige. Which was basically egg whites whipped up and then covered in caramel which I believe was then torched, all floating on caramel-flavored crème anglaise.

This LOOKS like incoherent alien goo but in fact it was the most delicious thing I have ever eaten. Some kind of gratinée or something, it contained eggplant and ravioles and of course CHEESE.

AND OMG Patrice can cook so well. He made so much freakin’ food, everyone just sat in the sun and gripped their stomachs and groaned afterwards. I should have taken a picture of the actual table covered in food, but the more time I spend here, the worse I am about taking photos. I feel like a jackass taking pictures every four seconds. And then everyone else in the group ends up taking the same pictures. I just want to be different? God, I am a jackass.

So yeah yesterday we spent the day at Patrice’s country house in St Marcellin. Which is known for its cheese. Which is delicious and creamy. (Patrice is our academic advisor and he is THE MAN.) It was breathtaking, etc.

Hey so imagine walking on large hilltop through a field of wildflowers on a clear, sunny, warm day while butterflies fly to and fro and you have a view of the valley below and everything is green and then blocking the horizon are snow-capped mountains. That was my afternoon?
